Non-powder lateral penetrating craniocerebral gunshot wound in a 10-year-old girl: A case report

Introduction: Non-powder lateral penetrating craniocerebral gunshot wounds (PCGW) is one of the lethal types head injury. The mortality rate higher in adults than pediatric populations and influenced by clinical radiologic findings as to important predictors for prognostication patients with PGCW.Case presentation: A 10-year-old girl presented a wound 1 day prior. She was accidentally shot her brother an air gun from approximately 2 feet barrel. develops loss consciousness 30 minutes weakness over left arm. On physical examination, Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) E3V5M6, on arm, entrance right temple without exit wound. skull X-ray showed pellet fragment computed tomography (CT) scan bullet track starting frontotemporal towards parietooccipital region, damaging both hemispheres associated intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). undergone craniotomy procedure remove fragment, debridement necrotic tissue, evacuate blood clot track. patient discharged after postoperative 7 good recovery neurological function GCS Outcome (GOS) score. After 6 months follow-up, neither new deficit nor other signs symptoms were developed.Conclusion: PCGW can cause significant damage intracranial compartment, despite its low velocity. pediatrics lower adult population. management mandated urgent surgical any foreign bodies encountered.
